with Amos Nachoum, Director of BigAnimals Expeditions;
and Peter DenHaan, Rebreather Instructor Trainer
"My view from the extreme left to the far right was completely filled with bodies of sharks, swimming, parading carelessly along the wall swinging their tail and hammer like head from left to right ever so slowly like they were deliberately parading in front of our eyes and cameras. It was one of the most electrifying moments in my 40 years of diving."
The ever-present schooling hammerhead
sharks patrolling the reefs of Cocos Island and the unique
technical diving support onboard the Undersea Hunter are rare in
the world of recreation sport and therefore it is - the classic
combination. This combination supports the advantages of diving
with a rebreather, get closer than normal to the wildlife and
stay submerged longer underwater, which leads to extraordinary
photo opportunities.
Cocos, legendary deserted island of
Robinson Crusoe, 240 miles off Costa Rica, is world-renowned for
the electrifying beauty of rainforest, waterfalls cascading into
the ocean and of its blue water diving. Diving along these
island walls, sea mounts and pinnacles offer an opportunity to
dive with the never-ending schooling hammerhead sharks, the
occasional whale shark, hundreds of white-tip sharks and bait
balls.
Leading the technical and safety aspects of
the expedition I have hired Mr. Peter DenHaan (my trainer on the
Evolution) with Instructor Trainer ratings with IANTD & TDI
through Trimix. Peter currently is the leading trainer for the
inspiration & Evolution rebreather.
Peter will conduct several seminars onboard
about advanced Rebreather diving and the latest safety issues.
On a daily basis Peter will actively review our maintaince and
pre dive procedures to ensure your enjoyment and productive
photography effort.
Leading the photography activity on the
expedition I will conduct several presentations about BigAnimals
photography and about Blue Water photography. I will provide
photography coaching one on one and will screen presentations of
my well-known camera work from around the world.
To accommodate this one-of-a-kind diving
event I chartered half of the “Undersea Hunter” and the
exclusive use of one of its two skiffs. You will be one of the
seven guests rebreather
divers plus Peter and myself. Onboard the vessel will be another
team of five open circuit divers. The two teams will have their
own separate dive skiffs and we will operate independently from
each other.
Rebreather divers are awarded with 90
minutes bottom time on each dive and I secured for us three
dives per day plus handful of night dives too. The Undersea
Hunter is fully equipped to support the rebreather divers
technical and exotic supply for Oxygen and Scrubber.
The Undersea Hunter group also provides a
unique diving experience – onboard a three-person submarine,
which takes people and provides a rare undersea exploration to
300 feet, 700 and 1,000 feet.
The Undersea and Sea Hunters vessels and now with Argos
have the world’s best record for live-aboard dive boats and have
an outstanding reputation for providing high quality dive
services.
This promises to be a most dynamic
expedition and rewarding experience for the participating divers
- due to the locations, Hammerhead schooling season, extended
bottom time and the availability of the submarine.
This expedition is open to all Rebreather
users, fully close and semi close alike, are welcome.
