My expeditions feature total immersion with BigAnimals in the Galapagos Islands. This concept has been overwhelmingly successful and many of the guests repeat their experience year after year with me for the simple reason to be among the BigAnimals. My guests have witnessed a wide range of BigAnimals, from whale sharks and hammerheads to giant mantas, Galapagos sharks and ocean sunfish. And there's always the possibility that we'll encounter dolphins, sperm whales and orcas along the way and we did. At Darwin, We have had one encounter with a pod of up to 500 Melon Head Whales and last year a pod of over 300 Bottlenose Dolphins that remained with us for half a day. ![]() BigAnimals Total Immersion Galapagos will deliver two full weeks on the water. This unprecedented length of time will allow divers to have more frequent encounters with BigAnimals, which means more opportunities to get stunning photographic shots. However, there is a twist in the two week itinerary for 2009. As it stands now and it could be modified closer to the trip departure date, we will have to return to home base after one week and leave out on the next day back north to Darwin and Wolf... with this in mind, we are still going to get between 11 to 12 days of diving and the bulk of our time at islands up north.
The BigAnimals itinerary is designed around my diving experience in the Galapagos for over 30 years and with the best knowledge of the seasoned skipper of the Sky Dancer. We plan to invest eight to ten days at the most northern islands in the Galapagos Archipelago Islands between Wolf and Darwin. We may also visit the Marshall Area off of Isabella Island, all of these remote locations are are the host to many different species of marine life and underwater attractions that make the Galapagos such a spectacular place. Think BigAnimals-- whale sharks, giant manta rays, eagle rays, schooling hammerhead sharks, amphibious iguanas and numerous pelagic marine wildlife. What is better than seeing the images from the last voyage? Click Here! This is the place to mention that with such an ambitious aquatic itinerary, we will do very limited land exploration and that with the spirit of the new regulations, minimizing the human impact on the fragile land. We will be cruising on board the 130' Sky Dancer, one of the luxurious live-aboard boats with a superb and dedicated local crew. This successful vessel is managed, trained and operated by Peter Hughes Diving. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity. BigAnimals Total Immersion Galapagos has attracted so many enthusiasts that both of our trips in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 were totally sold out. Due to such rewarding feedback from my guests and demand, I have set up an expedition for June 2009. Make your reservations now! This is an outstanding opportunity for people
who have wanted to join a BigAnimals expedition. In the
past, space on our expeditions anywhere else in the
Changes are taking place in Galapagos too.
Galapagos National Park has mandated that only one week charters
are available from now onward to limit the human impact on the
fragile environment. Under special arrangements, I am able
to secure a two week charter in 2009 during the prime time for BigAnimal encounters, between
May and September.
