OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Your Unique Adventure
Our goal is to see, photograph, and interact with the most imposing
inhabitants of the animal kingdom, and to observe special behavior
such as predation, migration, nursing, and parenting. Each journey's
departure is carefully timed to coincide with peak behavior displays
that occur only during two to four week periods each year. Our guests
have been witness to the astounding mass sardine run of South Africa,
the chaos and charm of 100,000 breeding king penguins on South Georgia
Sub Antarctica, polar bears teaching their young to hunt, and the
awe-inspiring sight of killer whales in Norway "rounding up"
schools of herring.
Big Animals Photography Expeditions has organized
expeditions for the professional teams from National Geographic,
Discovery and the BBC Wildlife. All of our trips are planned to
this same standard so you're guaranteed a high quality level of
photographic opportunities and logistical services.
Unhurried Photographic Opportunities
Each trip is led by Amos Nachoum and is strictly limited to only
2-6 privileged guests. This provides individuals with room to move
freely, ample space in which to photograph/film, individual photographic
opportunities, and personalized attention and advice. As a bonus,
our small size has far less impact on the wildlife being observed
and their environment than far larger tour groups.
Your Guide
For more than twenty years, world-renowned photographer Amos Nachoum's
explorations have been featured by National Geographic, the BBC,
and the Discovery Channel. His photo essays have been published
among others in National Geographic, Outdoor Photographer, Sport
Diver, BBC Wildlife, Men's Journal, Time, Life, and Conde Nast Traveler.
(See About Us). The desire to share
his special experiences with others has led Mr. Nachoum to create
his own exclusive travel company, Big Animals Photography Expeditions.
In the course of his career, he has guided over 2,700 divers, snorkelers,
and adventurers across the globe. As well as an unparalleled record
of success in finding and observing unique animals in the wild,
he is equally proud of his immaculate safety record.
Environmental Concerns and Action: a personal
statement from Amos
All human activity has an impact
on the environment; the moreso when we interact with wildlife. From
the beginning, the question I have asked myself is: how can I minimize
the impact while still pursuing those special photographic opportunities
as well as sharing them with others?
Twenty years of such encounters have taught me that
the critical ingredient to such success is maintaining the small
size of observing groups. While travel industry pundits maintain
that a group size of 2-6 is too small to be practical, I believe
that it is vital not only to the success of the encounter, but to
protecting the animals under observation as well. I also believe
it is largely responsible for the 60% repeat visit rate of my guests.
In line with these same environmental concerns,
I have also decided to forgo the printing of slick color catalogs
and mass mailings, which debris eventually finds its way into the
oceans. Hence the extensive use of my website and emails to communicate
with my guests."
Anyone May Enjoy
You don't have to be an Ernest Shackelton or Jacques Cousteau, a
professional explorer or long-time diver to participate in the Big
Animals Photography Expeditions experience. All you need to bring
with you is a passion for Nature, with or without a camera; the
spirit of adventure; and a desire to step beyond the typical experiences
offered by the usual travel agency or outfitter. Your trip of a
lifetime awaits!
