BigAnimals Expeditions are Poles Apart

We dive in the North Pole, around Antarctica, and everywhere in between!

Tsunami Relief Fund

Reading a BigAnimals newsletter may cause excitement, hyperventilation, and dizziness, which could induce an acute craving for exotic diving and photographic adventures. Side effects include: compulsive overseas travel planning, excessive inventorying of camera equipment, redemption of frequent flyer miles and intense anticipation of BigAnimal encounters. Even die-hard adrenaline addicts are not immune to these effects when confronted by globetrotting opportunities ranging from the Arctic to Antarctica. Symptoms may increase in severity by going to http://www.biganimals.com where information on expeditions other than those featured in this newsletter can be found.

To relieve any of these symptoms, call the BigAnimals Hotline at 877-229-4253 or 415-923-9865 and reserve a place on one of these incredible expeditions. Additional information can also be obtained by emailing Amos Nachoum at

Total Immersion in the Galapagos Islands

Start Planning for 2006, Space is Limited

Whale Shark

In August of 2005 and 2006, I'll be leading two remarkable diving adventures in conjunction with one of the world's best live-aboard operators — Peter Hughes Diving.

These expeditions will be a total immersion in the Galapagos Islands. Guests will see a wide range of BigAnimals, from whale sharks and hammerheads to giant mantas, Galapagos sharks and ocean sunfish. And there's always the possibility that we'll encounter dolphins, sperm whales and orcas along the way.

BigAnimals Total Immersion Galapagos will deliver two full weeks on the water. This unprecedented length of time will allow divers to have more frequent encounters with BigAnimals, which means more opportunities to get stunning photographic shots. I've personally designed this expedition, and I'll be on hand to offer photo coaching and share my enthusiasm for the sea... and BigAnimals.

We'll spend an entire week on remote Wolf and Darwin islands; and we'll make an extended visit to Roca Redonda, perhaps the best site for sharks in the entire Galapagos. We'll visit the Marshall area of Isabela Island, which is the host to many different species of marine life and underwater attractions that make the Galapagos such a spectacular place. Think giant manta rays, eagle rays, and amphibious iguanas.

We will be cruising on board the 100' Sky Dancer, one of the luxurious live-aboard boats owned and operated by Peter Hughes Diving.

Don't miss out on this unique opportunity. BigAnimals Total Immersion Galapagos has attracted so many enthusiasts that both of our trips in 2005 are already sold out. We are taking standby reservations for them on a first come first served basis. If you're interested, make sure to put your name on our waiting list.

Due to such popular demand, we have already set up an expedition for August 2006. Make your reservations now.

Galapagos Boat
This is an outstanding opportunity for people who have wanted to join a BigAnimals expedition. In the past, space on our expeditions has been limited to a maximum of six guests. These trips are open to 16. If you've always wanted to dive and photograph the Galapagos, you won't want to miss it!

Two NEW Expeditions to an Unexplored Antarctica

Extreme Antarctica Plus

East Antarctica via New Zealand

Extreme Antarctica

December 4 — 29, 2006

We are going to a part of Antarctica the fabled explorers never reached. There are no historical huts from the Edmonson or Ross expeditions. No footsteps of Shackleton to follow. Not even a National Geographic TV crew has been there. There's no one to follow. Our free spirit and sense of adventure will lead us.

BigAnimals Expeditions will team with Heritage Expedition in New Zealand to offer this extraordinary voyage, off the unbeaten track, aboard the 221' ice strengthened Spirit of Enderby.

We will conduct ice landing and scuba diving exploration on mainland Antarctica remote islands and icebergs. Our ship will be equipped with a Hovercraft that can safely and efficiently transport all our gear and us over difficult terrain to selected diving locations.

We are planning this December 2006 expedition to east Antarctica via New Zealand for several reasons: excellent underwater visibility, the variety and size of invertebrates, the possibility of encountering Orcas, Blue Whales and Leopard Seals -- not to mention, the unmitigated thrill of diving under the ice shelf. Get ready for the bluest icebergs your eyes will ever see.

As on all Big Animals research and exploration expeditions, we will accept only six divers.

Dates: December 4 — 29, 2006

Cost: $15,900-$17,900

Availability: 6 spaces

90th Anniversary of Shackleton's Expedition

Diving in the Footsteps of Ernest Shackleton

December 27, 2006 — January 17, 2007

Ernest Shackleton has always been one of my heroes. To commemorate the 90th anniversary of his legendary rescue mission, I will lead a 21-day diving expedition to Antarctica.

BigAnimals will operate this historic voyage with Oceanwide Expeditions, the pioneer operators of Antarctica scuba diving.

In January 2005, Oceanwide and BigAnimals will conduct a reconnaissance trip for the 2006 expedition. We will be exploring and diving the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the Antarctica peninsula. I'll report our findings in the next newsletter.

Dates: December 27, 2006 — January 17, 2007
